Day 1 / Tbilisi

Arrival

Arrival at Tbilisi international airport and transfer to the hotel by ecological vehicle (depending on the number of group). Your hotel is located outside the city center in an ecologically sustainable area near the Tbilisi Sea.

Day 2 / Tbilisi

Visit of Tbilisi - capital of Georgia

Walking tour of the city of Tbilisi (or visit by electronic scooters, upon request) crossed by the Mtkvari river. Discovery of the old town with its cobbled streets and traditional houses with wooden balconies. We visit the monuments of the city: the church of Metekhi on the plateau of Metekhi with the beautiful view of the old city, Abanotoubani - baths district, known for its hot sulfur springs, the waterfall of Leghvtakhevi, the fortress of Narikala - the ancient symbol of the city, the Synagogue and the Mosque located on the same street. After the walk on Shardeni street, animated by many restaurants and cafes we visit the Sioni cathedral (VIIth c. renovated in XIIIth c.) and the Anchiskhati basilica (Vie s.).Lunch at the local restaurant.In the afternoon we visit the National museum and its collections of "golden treasures" which starts from the ancient period. Then the walk on the Freedom Square connected to the main avenue of the city - Rustaveli, where the building of the Parliament of Georgia, the great Kashubian cathedral, the Rustaveli theater and the national opera are located.Dinner at the local restaurant. Jour 3 / Tbilisi - Ananouri - Kazbégui - Jouta

Discovery of the Great Caucasus

Departure to the Great Caucasus - Kazbegui. Crossing the Cross Pass (2300 meters) we admire breathtaking views of the northern mountains. On the way, visit of Ananuri fortresses with picturesque views of Jinvali water dam. Arrival at Stepantsminda, the administrative center of the region. Here we hike to the Trinity Church of Gergetia (14th century) located next to Mount Kazbek. The hike takes about 2 hours, 6 km. Suggestion: ride a horse or a car (upon request). Lunch with a local family. The hostess of the family shows us how to prepare the traditional mokhevian dish Khinkali.After the hike, departure to the village Jouta - one of the highest (2200 m) and most beautiful villages of the Caucasus. From the center of the village we start our short hike (about 2-3 hours) to a small lake with the panorama of Chaoukhi mountains (3842 m). We return to the center of the campsite located in the middle of the mountains, with a view of the Chaoukhi massif.

Day 4 / Jouta-Trousso-Pchavi

Continuation of the Caucasian adventure

In the morning, visit of the local family in Jouta. Here we attend the workshop of Georgian cheese making with traditional local methods.Departure to Trousso valley (2000m.). The valley is composed of different geological layers and reveals the stages of the formation of the Great Caucasus. We cross the forest and start our 5 hours hike in the valley. We cross the wooden bridge and stop at a small greenish lake with sparkling water. Then we reach the only inhabited village in the valley. On the way we admire the mountainous surroundings and flora of the region.Return to the starting point on the other side of the Tergui river.Picnic during the hike.Departure to a small historical region of northern Georgia - Pchavi. Arrive at a camping center - a friendly, eco-friendly camp nestled in a wooded area on the banks of the Aragvi River.

Day 5 / Pchavi-Mtskheta-Ateni

Discovery of Mtskheta with its UNESCO sites and the Ateni valley

Departure to the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Iberia (Eastern Georgia) - Mtskheta and its UNESCO sites: visit of the Svetitskhoveli cathedral (means "life-giving column") dating from the 11th century and the monastery of Djvari ("cross") (4th century) standing on a cliff above the confluence of two rivers - Aragvi and Mtkvari. Lunch in a local restaurant.Departure to Ateni valley located in Chida Kartli region (Central Georgia), with untouched nature and small exotic villages. Embedded in the pine forests it is an ideal place for relaxing hikes. Before arriving at the ecological house of our hosts, we visit the Atenis Sioni church (7th century) decorated with beautiful bas-reliefs, frescoes and old Georgian scriptures. Crossing a small river we arrive on foot at the house of our host. Possibility to organize a small hike (less than 1 hour) on the forest path of the valley.

Dinner at the home of our host, the local winemaker, who explains the traditional methods of making the very specific Georgian natural wine. The winemaker takes pride in preserving and developing the age-old agricultural and cultural traditions of the Ateni region.

Jour 6 / Ateni-Ouplistsikhé-Gori-Bordjomi-Akhaltsikhé-Pia

Visit to the troglodyte site Uplistsikhe and the resort town of BorjomiIn the morning we drive to Uplistsikhe, a troglodyte town founded in the late Bronze Age, considered one of the oldest urban sites in Georgia. The rock-cut city includes a great hall, called Tamaris Darbazi, pagan sacrifice places, an amphitheater and other functional buildings such as a pharmacy, a bakery, a prison, an amphitheater, etc. Lunch with a local family in Gori (the birthplace of Joseph Stalin in Soviet style).Departure to Samtshe-Djavakheti region. Visit of Bordjomi resort - famous for its mineral water springs. On request: Possibility to organize a bicycle tour in the Bordjomi-Kharagaouli national park or the visit of the central park of Borjomi and tasting of natural acid water.In case of bicycle tour, 2 options are offered:

1. a tour in a coniferous forest of Likani about 6 km. round trip.

2. tour in canyons and high rocks (approx. 5 km round trip).you can climb up to the hill to see a beautiful panorama on the huge valley.

Visit a local house in the village of Pia. Participation in the activities of the local farm with the hostess of the family, such as: milking cows, making natural butter and delicious local yoghurt called "Matsoni".

Day 7 / Pia-Vardzia-Saro-Ghélati

Vardzia cave site and the surrounding area of the Lesser CaucasusThe morning visit to the cave site Vardzia, located on the left bank of the Mtkvari river. The foundation of the city is linked to Queen Tamar who reigned in the XII-XIII century, a period called the "Golden Age" of Georgia. Vardzia is composed of 13 levels of natural caves and contains more than 6000 functional rooms connected by narrow tunnels. Lunch in a local farm with its own garden of natural fruits and vegetables, trout and rabbits, wine, etc. In the morning, departure to the village Saro to visit a very specific house of the region, called "Mitsuri" or "Meskhetian house" built under the ground. Meeting with a local family who will explain us the local lifestyle in ancient times.Departure to the western part of Georgia via the Rikoti Pass (996 m). Arrival in Kutaisi, the second largest city of Georgia, the educational and cultural center. Arrival in the village of Gelati near Kutaisi and dinner at our host's house in an ethnic wooden house. The owner of the house is very proud of her organic products. On request, it is possible to invite a local folklore group that presents Georgian folk songs and national dances.

Jour 8 / Ghélati - Koutaïssi - Chekvetili

Discovery of the UNESCO sites and the way to the Black Sea

In the morning visit to the monastic complex of Gelati (11th century), a masterpiece of medieval Georgian architecture, consisting of the large cathedral with its exceptional mural paintings and other buildings of different functions, including the academy of sciences. Then visit the recently renovated Bagrati Cathedral (X-XI centuries) - a very distinct place in the urban landscape of Kutaisi. Then visit the local market, an authentic place of Kutaisi. Drive to the Gouria region, the village of Chekvetili and the seaside resort on the Black Sea.
