Sustainable tourism in Paris

50.6 million tourists visited Paris in 2019. Every year, the capital is one of the most visited cities in the world. Four UNESCO World Heritage Sites, a fine gastronomy and a cultural city of reference: it is no wonder that the City of Light attracts so many tourists as it shines.

But the constant flow of tourists is not without consequences for the city. Some of the busiest places suffer from the mass visits: pollution and noise pollution are on the menu. To counter this phenomenon, Paris is trying to adopt an eco-responsible approach. To this end, the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau has established a programme: "for sustainable tourism in Paris". Aimed at all players in the capital's tourism sector, this project encourages professionals to make the transition to a more ecological activity. Participants are promoted in the communication of the Tourist Office.

Although it is one of the largest cities in France, Paris can be visited very well by walk. The city is full of very different paths. Visit the Latin Quarter, one of the oldest in the capital, where Roman remains, gardens and emblematic monuments can be found, or track down the street art of the 13th arrondissement. Why not take a walk along the coulée verte? This former aerial metro line has been converted into gardens and runs from Bastille to the Bois de Vincennes. Looking for greenery? Head for the Bois de Boulogne where you can walk or ride your bike. The 850-hectare estate has 15 kilometres of cycle paths. Meet the peacocks in the Bagatelle garden. Rent a boat on the lake before admiring the works of art at the Louis Vuitton Foundation.

Get to the capital in a flash from many French and European train stations while reducing your carbon footprint.
