Why come to Barracudas ? >

Nights in an African hut

The Barracudas are defined as a camp in the middle of nature. For good reason, you are on an island of shells, near a bolong, in other words an arm of the sea connected to the Saloum River. The area is inhabited by a luxuriant vegetation of mangrove which shelters a rich fauna and flora.

In spite of this wild setting, you will not have to give up your comfort. You will sleep in an African hut for 3 or 4 people with private bathroom and toilets. All you have to do is choose between :

  • Un bungalow avec toit en paille A bungalow with straw roof in the garden ;
  • A small house with feet in the water ;
  • A hut on the edge of the mangrove.

With electricity produced by solar energy, Les Barracudas limits its impact on the environment to a minimum. Take advantage of the salt water swimming pool which is also powered by the sun for a pleasant moment of relaxation. In this little cocoon in the heart of the mangrove of Sine Saloum, you will have no difficulty in relaxing and enjoying your vacation in Senegal.

Discovery of the Senegalese gastronomy

Your hosts will welcome you warmly and will be happy to let you taste the Senegalese gastronomy in the Barracudas restaurant. Taste tasty fish caught locally or the oysters of mangroves, a specialty of Sokone.

What to do around this ecolodge in the Sine Saloum ? >

Observing nature

The Sine-Saloum delta is an exceptional natural area at the confluence of the Sine and Saloum rivers. In this environment between fresh and salt water, the mangrove flourishes and offers an ideal living environment for many plant and animal species.

Marvel at the unusual vegetation between mangroves and baobabs. Also observe the flight of birds: herons, egrets, but also pelicans populate this rich natural world.

Activities between nature and culture

From the ecolodge in the Sine Saloum, go deep into the mangrove on a kayak or dugout canoe trip. You can also go by mountain bike to discover the surrounding villages and the great expanses of the tannes where you can see the tracks of hyenas, mongooses, monkeys and other inhabitants of this incredible ecosystem. These are excellent ways to discover the riches that surround you, without disturbing the wildlife that lives there.

Visit also the Serer and Mandingo villages and meet the villagers on the markets. You will discover the Senegalese culture in an authentic way, with the warm contact of the locals.

If you move away from the Barracudas, you will be able to explore the Sine-Saloum natural park in more depth. Do not miss :

  • The village of Palmarin and its amazing pink church ;
  • A fishing trip from the village of Djiffer, the largest port in the region ;
  • The islands of the Delta, such as Mar Lodj or Sipo, each with a unique atmosphere.
