All the addresses of eco-friendly hotels in Veneto

Nestled between the Dolomites and the Adriatic Sea in northern Italy, Veneto offers many faces and a wealth of discoveries for all travel desires. Venice, its capital, is perhaps the highlight of the show. Unfortunately, the City of the Doges suffers from mass tourism which threatens the city and degrades the quality of life of its inhabitants. Does sustainable tourism still have a future in the region? What are the possibilities of eco-friendly accommodation in Veneto?

 Sustainable tourism in Veneto

Veneto is a region rich in nature and history. It has a lot of beautiful discoveries in store for you. However, tourists seem to be concentrated in specific areas, which suffer from the influx of people, especially during the high season:

Venice, infamous for having become a symbol of mass tourism. While the city was deserted during the pandemic years, by 2022, tourists were back in droves with nearly 150,000 visitors per day during Easter weekend. By 2023, Venice plans to introduce a mandatory reservation system and a flat rate to be paid by day visitors, in an attempt to stem the tide;

The Dolomites, in particular the Tre Cime Natural Park, on the border between Veneto and South Tyrol. The viewpoint of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, for example, receives about 13,000 visitors per day in high season. Classified as a Unesco World Heritage Site, the various sites in the Dolomites are beginning to implement tolls and visitor quotas to curb overcrowding.

So what can you do as a traveler to support sustainable tourism in the Veneto? If you want to discover the Dolomites, choose the low season for your stay (between September and June). As far as Venice is concerned, why not turn to alternatives to the City of the Doges?

Finally, take the time to discover other places in the region that are full of charm and change of scenery, such as

  • The Po Delta Regional Park, a natural area rich in biodiversity;
  • The Euganean Hills in the center of the Po Valley, a paradise for hikers and wine tourists;
  • Verona, the city that inspired Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. It is also a city full of historical treasures, such as the Scaligero Bridge, a Unesco World Heritage Site, and the Roman Amphitheater.

Eco-friendly hotels in Veneto

Eco-responsible accommodations are on the rise in Italy, offering travelers looking for an eco-friendly vacation a welcome alternative. Veneto is no exception!

Ethik&Trips' favorite in this region: Camina Cortina, an ecological hotel with spa in the heart of the Dolomites. Located in Cortina d'Ampezzo, a pleasant mountain village at an altitude of 1210 meters, the setting is perfect for exploring the beautiful landscapes of the Dolomites in any season.

Camina Cortina is a small hotel with only 12 rooms. Each room has a balcony with a breathtaking view of the Dolomite mountains and a refined, natural decor. But what makes this accommodation particularly idyllic is the spa on the top floor of the hotel. 100 square meters of wellness space await you, overlooking the Tofane mountain range and the Ampezzo Valley.

When the snow covers the steep peaks, enjoy the resort's winter activities: downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and ice skating await you in Cortina d'Ampezzo. In summer, the Dolomites become a real playground for hikers. From the resort, you can hike over 400 km of marked trails, perfect for admiring the Alpine panoramas and breathing in the pure mountain air.
